Of Counsel, Econometric Analysis
Dr. Beltrán-Hernández is an economist who obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, in 2016. His doctoral thesis focused on a range of topics related to the field of environmental economics and climate change, with a particular emphasis on the economic valuation of extreme events and risk perception and how these factors impact the real economy, in particular, the real estate market.
Dr. Beltrán-Hernández is an expert in applied econometrics. He has extensively used econometric methods to analyze industries and markets. Specifically, he has used state-of-the-art econometric methods for the analysis and design of adaptation and mitigation strategies for climate change, as well as for the economic valuation of a set of environmental issues in Mexico, Latin America, and Europe.
During the period 2008-2009, he worked as an economic consultant in environmental economics in a project coordinated by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in Mexico. He was responsible for the estimation of econometric models to forecast the economic impact of climate change on different industries of the Mexican economy, primarily agriculture, energy and water resources.
From 2010 to 2012, he worked as a consultant for the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), where he participated in the estimation and analysis of the economic impacts of climate change in Central America. He also served as an expert in the quantification of the economic damages associated with natural disasters in countries such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica.
During his professional career, Dr. Beltrán-Hernández has taught econometrics, statistics, and environmental economics at institutions such as the London School of Economics & Political Science and Birmingham University in the United Kingdom, as well as at the National University of Mexico. He frequently presents his research and analyses at international conferences in the United States, Canada and Europe.
In the recent past, Dr. Beltrán-Hernández was part of the academic staff at the London School of Economics. Currently, he is Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Birmingham. In 2022, he was a visiting scholar at Yale University, USA. In 2018, Dr. Beltrán-Hernández joined the team of Oxford Competition Economics Research Group as an expert in econometric analysis and economic valuation.
